Taxes! I'll Give You Taxes!

I have grown up in a strong republican family. However, as my 18th birthday nears, I have decided to register as a democrat. I wont go into why, but it has something to do with the war, and health care. I am going to go into taxes and revelation I had a few days ago.

"Taxes are always a good thing, if they do a great thing"

Well you can imagine the things that came out of my very republican fathers mouth when I came out with that one. He went on and on about how I don't know what I am talking about, because I'm not working. This may be true, but I do know that you cant fix a pot hole for free. I also know that the financial aid that is used to pay for my college education (something my mother or father never attained) is paid for in part, with taxes.

I started thinking about taxes when I learned that the city of Portland was going to raise the gas tax in order to have enough money to fix the pot holes that dot our city streets like zits on a greasy teenager. People we outraged at this and I have to wonder why? Who is it that complains about their axle breaking on a pot hole? Sure they want them fixed, but they just don't want to pay for it.

So stop complaining unless you are willing to do something about it.
